LIEBSTUDIOS is an architecture, interior design, and fine art studio that was founded 1990 in Brooklyn, NY, under the belief that a meaningful, creative practice is grounded in collaboration, creativity, and experimentation. Now based in Salem, MA for over 20 years, our core beliefs remain the same; a commitment to provide individualized professional services to our clients while exploring the rich potential for collaborative teams and project processes that play a role in supporting the quality of human functioning across the Life-Span spectrum adhering to Person-Centered Design principles.

LIEBSTUDIOS offers professional services to private institutional (religious), commercial and residential clients with an emphasis on historic structures. Our studio includes comprehensive planning, architecture, interior design and fine art. There is a special emphasis on projects that are community based.

We are committed to exploring how spaces and environments can perform to meet the changing and diverse needs of today’s end user by building upon principles of Person-Centered design.

LIEBSTUDIOS takes a collaborative approach to each project, assembling interdisciplinary project teams to meet the specific needs and challenges of each project and client. Each commission is given individual attention by engaged, detail oriented and experienced professionals.

STUDIO TEAM

David Michael Lieb, RA, RID, NCARB, PMP, GGP

Principal and Founder

David has acquired over 30 years of diverse architectural practice. A graduate of the Pratt Institute – School of Architecture and Harvard University – Graduate School of Design, David has worked with governmental, state and local agencies, private religious organizations, private single and multi-family and specialized housing (Independent, assisted and Alzheimer care facilities); retail and entertainment projects, and provided Construction Management services for the National Park Service overseeing key historic projects in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; performing Facility Capital Needs assessments and evaluations for historic and non-historic structures. He has specialties in Person-Centered design and Universal Accessibility, Model Codes and Life safety, and ADA / accessibility expert witness consulting for civil actions. 

David holds professional registrations and certifications in the following states and specialty areas:

Architectural and Interior Design Registration Registered Architect: Commonwealth of Massachusetts, State of New Hampshire, State of Maine, State of Rhode Island, State of Georgia and State of Missouri

National Council of Architectural Registration NCARB Certified

Green Building Initiative Certified Green Globes Professional

OSHA OSHA 10-hour and 30-hour certified

David has worked on projects in 16 U.S. States and is fluent with all major Model Building and Life Safety Codes and accessibility codes and guidelines including ADA, Fair Housing, and the 521 CMR.

In addition to architectural practice, David has volunteered his professional experience to non-profit organizations on a pro bono publico basis working extensively with the ADA, Fair Housing, and Universal Design. He has held adjunct and full-time academic appointments at several colleges and universities, is an exhibiting fine artist, and has had articles related to accessibility published nationally and presented internationally.

In 2012, David presented an hour-long session titled Evidence-Based Research in Universal Design at Universal Design 2012 International Conference on Universal Design in Oslo, Norway. In April 2013, he was an invited expert panelist for “Housing Opportunities for All: Expanding Housing Choice for Persons with Disabilities, Families, & Persons Aging-in-Place” sponsored by CHAPA (Citizens Housing and Planning Association) in Boston, MA. David was also Design mentor to three (3) graduate student teams between 2007 – 2009 participating in the Federal Home Loan Bank’s Affordable Housing Development Competition in Boston, MA; receiving first place award in 2007 with Team Crim on a site in New Bedford, MA; and third place award in 2009 with the Dudly Square, Roxbury, MA site Team.
